We would love for you to be part of the Key Academic Community for the 2008-2009 academic year. Because Key is an honorary program with a limited number of spaces, a separate application is required. Before you apply, be sure to read below to determine if your major is compatible with participating in the Key Academic Community.

Confirmation Contract
If you have already applied and been accepted into the Key Academic Community, we need you to return your Key Academic Student Contract and Bio Card, which will serve as your confirmation to the Community. Once we receive your Key Contract and Bio Card, we will be able to assign you to one of the Key floors in Braiden Hall and enable you to register for Key Academic Cluster classes.

Important Considerations
Residents of the Key Academic Community will be accepted on the basis of student commitment to Key goals, as evidenced by the student’s responses to the application questions. Acceptance is also based on space availability. For these reasons, return your application quickly.
There is not a grade point average or test score requirement for admission to the program. We have found that students from every level of academic preparation do well in the Key Academic Community. Instead, selections are based on space availability and on each student’s commitment to academic success and leadership development as demonstrated through a complete and thoughtful application.
If you would like to be part of the Key Academic Community but have already received your housing assignment, that is not a problem. If you are accepted into the Key Academic Community, your housing assignment will be automatically changed to the Key floors of Braiden Hall.
Key students move to campus one day earlier than other on-campus residents in order to fully participate in Key Orientation, a required component of the program. Key Orientation is a time for students to meet everyone in their Key Course Cluster and on their floor, interact with faculty and staff involved with the program, and connect with campus resources.
Does your major work with Key?
Because of the requirement for Key Academic Community students to enroll in a Key Course Cluster (three classes linked together by a common theme), the community is not usually compatible with the course requirements of students in the following majors: Engineering (Open Option Seeking Engineering is OK); Landscape Architecture and Landscape Horticulture; Computer Science; Music; and Pre-Music. If you are already admitted into one of these majors, please call us at 970-491-3658 before applying so we can discuss your options.
