Key Academic Community Orientation

 

 

Fall Key Orientation and Early Move In

"I was able to find my classes and meet people so that the campus doesn’t look so big and scary. I felt part of a community in a new place."

Key students move to campus one day earlier than other first year students in order to fully participate in Key Orientation, a required component of the program.

For 2008-2009, students will move into Braiden Hall between 8:00am and 12:00noon on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 and participate in Orientation on Wednesday afternoon and all day Thursday, August 21, 2008. Parents/family members are invited to join Key Orientation on Wednesday afternoon from 1:00-4:00pm. A one-time early move in room and board fee will be charged to student's accounts for the early move in requirement.

Key Orientation is a time for students to meet everyone in their Key Course Cluster and their floor, including their Key Mentor and Resident Assistant, connect with faculty and staff involved with the program, learn about campus resources pertinent to academic success during college, find classrooms, and set goals for the semester.

Key students tell us that the benefits of Key Orientation included meeting and getting to know students and staff, feeling knowledgeable and comfortable in the residence hall and on campus, becoming more familiar with the requirements and expectations of being a Key student, and learning of resources that the campus offers.

Key Orientation is separate from but does not conflict with CSU's Ram Welcome Orientation, so students will have full opportunity and be highly encouraged to be involved with Ram Welcome.

Spring Key Kick Off

At the beginning of the spring semester, Key hosts a Spring Kick Off event. The Kick Off is held in the lobby of Braiden Hall and includes a pizza party social, tips on continuing academic success in the spring semester, and information on how to apply for the sophomore year Key Plus Community. Dates for the Kick Off Event vary by year.
