Student Commitments and Expectations

The Key Service Community is based on high standards for academic performance combined with the support and resources students need to succeed. With a limited number of spaces, we want to be sure that the Key Service Community is a perfect fit for both the student participant and the program.

Benefits of participating in the Key Service Community include:

  1. Co-registration for cluster classes
  2. Group study opportunities
  3. Feedback from faculty and mentors on your progress
  4. Key Mentors as guides throughout the year
  5. Familiar faces in your residence hall and classes
  6. Living with a close-knit group of students who share the values of the community
  7. Living on a Key floor in Braiden Hall (suite hall)
  8. A fall and spring “Key Orientation” program just for Key students
  9. Connections with faculty and staff
  10. Leadership development programs on campus and in the community
  11. Connection with resources and opportunities campus wide
  12. Sharing high standards for achievement, an appreciation for diversity, and involvement in campus activities

In return, we ask that students who apply to the Key Service Community make a commitment to the program.

Key Service Community students commit to:

  1. Participate in 25-30 hours of community service/volunteer
    work per semester;
  2. Strive for Academic achievement;
  3. Active involvement in classes and campus activities;
  4. Appreciate diversity;
  5. Contribute positively, respectfully, and civilly to the Key
    Service community of students, staff, and faculty;
  6. Be a positive representative of the Key Service Community;
  7. Live on the Key Service Community floors in Braiden Hall;
  8. Enroll in one of the Key Service Clusters during the fall semester;
  9. Enroll in IU 175: Public Problem Solving through Service-Learning during the spring semester;

 

If you are accepted into the Key Service Community and already have a housing assignment, we will automatically change your assignment to the Key Service Community floors in Braiden Hall.
